Post # 3: Vocabulary 1 of 2


Word: Philanthropist.
Meaning: A person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, esp. by the generous donation of money to good causes.
Example in sentence: My supervisor participates in the art world as collector and as a philanthropist.

Word: Resilient.
Meaning: Flexible, quick to recover.
Example in sentence: My director of company was a resilient person, and was able to pick up the pieces and move on after losing his business.

Word: Scrupulous
Meaning: Diligent, thorough, and extremely attentive to details.
Example in sentence: The doctor was scrupulous in his preparation for the operation.

Word: Profound
Meaning: Deep; of great and broadly inclusive significance. 
Example in sentence: Franklin D. Roosevelt had made a profound impact on American nation after Great Depression.  

Word: Rancorous
Meaning: Showing deep-seated resentment.
Example in sentence: Many people became rancorous because of the man's ignorant speech.
